In September 2000, it was completed. All of the plants in the Gardens are indigenous to China but were grown in the USA. There are five Elements in a Chinese Garden, Stone, Water, Plants, Architecture and Literature. The Gardens take up one city block in Chinatown, making this the largest Classical Chinese Garden outside of China.

For two weeks, the Garden showcases a number of activities for the whole family which include paper cutting crafts, lion dances, and knot tying.
