Homeland of White Clouds

Wuhan is known as the Yellow Crane and Homeland of White Clouds and is one of Chinas largest cities. The city of is made up of Hankou, Hanyang, and Wuchang, and are the three towns of Wuhan.

The citys commercial industry is flourishing with shopping malls and centres, super markets, chain stores and shopping streets throughout the city. One of the best shopping areas is found in the pedestrian street Jiangshan Road in the Jiangshan District which is the commercial district in the city. In the evening Jiangshin Road is bright in many ways like the Strip in Las Vegas, and crowded with people of all ages.

A great shopping area is in Hankou commercial district at the Zhongshan and Jianfang Avenues

At Number 209 Xianggang Road is a large antique market. A lot of stalls and stores sell traditional Chinese folk artwork, chops, curios, Chinese paintings, calligraphy, furniture, jade and other treasures from earlier days. Both locals and travellers enjoy looking for favourites.

Jiangtan Park is where you will find many music barsand discos all over the city, mostly open till 02.00 am. If you are in a disco with private rooms you can stay until it is time for breakfast.

Plum blossom is the city flower of Wuhan. From late February to early March each year, the Plum Blossom Festival is held at the scenic East Lake. Over 200 varieties of plum blossoms from different areas in China are exhibited. Activities on the theme of plum blossom such as Chinese calligraphy and paintings, plum mini-garden design contests, music and dance performances are presented.

One of the most famous and spectacular Towers in China the Yellow Crane Tower is a must to visit. Originally built in 223 A.D during the Three Kingdoms Period as a Wu Kingdom military tower. The tower has been destructed several times and is today placed one kilometre from its original site. Placed on the top of Snake Hill you have a 360 degree view from the top of the tower over the city and a magnificent view northwards over the great Yangtse River.

The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is the first highway and railway bridge over the Yangtze River. It was built in 1955, the bridge is 1670.4 meters long with the main body of 1156 meters. It has 8 piers and 9 holes. From the bridge, you can see the Hubei TV Tower on Tortoise Hill and the Yellow Crane Tower.
