Lima is on the southern bank of the Rimac River, with the Pacific Ocean on the west and the foot of the Andes Mountains on the east, in the coastal zone of central Peru, South America.
Lima is an economic magnet for struggling highland and Amazonian villagers. A vibrant city with friendly people. It quickly snares the curious travellers with fine museums, striking architecture and richly historical neighbourhoods.
Miraflores is the touristy district of the town there have been a development of a huge offer of amenities, since fine cuisine, fast food, cyber cafes, casinos, dancing, handcrafts, antiques flea markets, original paintings, and cinemas.
The smallest district of Lima is the Barranco district which was founded on October 26 1874.
In Lima, you can find traditional handicrafts from across Peru at the end of Larco in Miraflores, you will find a beautiful mall built into the cliffs overlooking the ocean. There are a few restaurants, a movie theatre and plenty of shops. This is where most shoppers go, although there are also several outlets in Lima Centre.
The most popular weekend destinations are penas, bars that offer music, a breathless combination of Peruvian, African, and other influences.
In the early evening people are clustered around movie theatres and concert halls and late at night they are piling into taxis headed to the bars and clubs of Miraflores and Barranco.
El Silencio found to the south of Lima this beach is very popular with locals and tourists in the summer January until March time. Then it is in fog for the rest of the year. The beach are not very pleasant for sunbathing and swimming, but the beaches in Lima are a paradise for surfers.
Jesus Christ, the Lord of Miracles, is the patron saint of Lima. Every year his patronage is celebrated in spectacular fashion. The whole month of October is known as the mes morado, or purple month, and is full of minor observations in honour of the patron, whose colour is purple. All sorts of sweets and food stuffs can be purchased from vendors along the path of the procession This festival is one of the most important one in Peru.
Marcahuasi which is some 14,000 feet high in the Andes, this stone forest show cases erosions on the rocks with easily identifiable forms of animals and humans.
