Reasons To Visit The Smoky Mountains On Vacation

If you are a nature buff, bird watcher or wildlife lover, the Smokies may be just the place for you to travel on your next vacation. Almost half of the species of wildlife that live in North America can be found in the Smoky Mountains. Documented species have been numbered to over 10,000 species, but an estimated 90,000 additional species are believed to call the Smoky Mountains home. One of the best places to see the wildlife is a visit to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Breath taking views are also a staple of the Smokies. Easily accessible hiking trails allow just about anybody to enjoy the magnificent views. A parkway, known as Foothills Parkway, extends a great portion up the mountain Chilhowee, so even non hikers can enjoy the panoramic view. On a clear day, visitors can see five states from the top of the Smoky Mountains.

If you are more into outdoor adventure with a little more excitement, you may want to consider a whitewater rafting trip in the Smokies. The Ocoee River, Nantahala River and Big Pigeon River host various rafting companies ready and willing to show you a view of the Smokies that you haven't see before. If you don't think you are quite ready to take on the whitewater rafting, you may also enjoy canoeing, kayaking or tubing down the rivers of the Smokies.

The Smokies follow the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. Of course, Tennessee isn't short on horses, so horseback riding is a popular activity for exploring the Smoky Mountains. Camping, hiking, biking and fishing are also popular and perfectly suited for the Smoky Mountains.

Maybe getting married in the mountains has always been your dream. Well, the Smokies are the second most popular place in the United States for a wedding or honeymoon. The old-fashioned, romantic atmosphere is enhanced with horse drawn carriages and candlelight wedding ceremonies. A remote cabin set in the mountains is a very peaceful, romantic location for a honeymoon, as well. Of course, if you are looking for some added excitement, there are several outdoor activities or shopping attractions for you to visit.

What country music lover hasn't wanted to head to Tennessee? A vacation to the Smoky Mountains may be just the reason to go. The Smoky Mountains are filled with country music entertainment. From gospel music performances to comedy theaters, you find it all in the Smokies.

Make your vacation a trip to remember. Visit the Smoky Mountains, where there is something for everyone.
